Jersey (2022)
"Jersey" is an Indian Bollywood movie directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri and produced by Dil Raju, S Naga Vamsi & Aman Gill. The film features Shahid Kapoor, Mrunal Thakur, and Pankaj Kapur in the lead roles. It is a Hindi remake of the Telugu hit of the same name. The story revolves around an ex-cricketer struggling to make ends meet, who wants to fulfill his child's wish of getting a jersey but in the process comes face to face with his heroic past and is forced to decide if he will rise to the occasion and become a symbol of hope or continue to live a life as a loser.
The movie portrays the journey of a talented yet failed cricketer, played by Shahid Kapoor, who decides to make a comeback in his 30s to fulfill his son's wish of getting a jersey. Critics have lauded the intent of the film and Shahid's performance, with reviews describing it as emotionally resonant, but thematically complacent. The emotional chords that "Jersey" hits, especially those that pertain to the father-son relationship, make the right music, but perfect consonance eludes the film because far too much of it is devoted to the sporting action around which the story revolves.
